Section titled “2026-10-17 session (Claude, on local machine; FamilySearch signed in via browser pane)”
  • *.cultura.gov.it hosts (SAN inventory, ASLu website, ICAR) time out from the home US IP (network-level geo-block). Antenati (antenati.cultura.gov.it) loads in the browser. To reach the SAN inventory, connect a VPN to an Italian/EU server (Mullvad is installed) and open https://inventari-san.cultura.gov.it/inventari/1623/ca/1414951.
  • FamilySearch images download at full resolution once signed in. Some images are restricted online: Italian births after ~1920 and Brazilian records after ~1970.

Technique notes: FamilySearch downloads go through the browser pane. fetch(…/dz/v1/3:1:<ARK>/dist.jpg) → blob → <a download>. The file lands in Downloads as a temporary .tmp; a watcher copies it to the scratch inbox. Older microfilm JPEGs carry a “film X, frame N” comment; newer Brazil images don’t, so they are matched by byte size.
