  1. In 4318, look for confidential births on 10–12 March 1901. Expected entries in the same weeks: Pirro (b. 11 Mar, M), Messalina Veliti (b. 12 Mar, F), Amarillide G. (b. 14 Mar, F), Consalvo S. (b. 17 Mar, M), Galeno M. (b. 2 Mar). Matching the sequence identifies Pirro’s line even if the child’s name was not written in.
  2. Note the mother’s name, age, place of origin, marital status and occupation, and whether she later acknowledged him (riconoscimento) or came back for him.
  3. In 4326, find Pirro’s admission (on or after 11 Mar 1901) and matricola. Use it to search the wet-nurse/payment registers and the segnali (tokens) box for 1901.
  4. Follow the placement to Gello / San Giuliano Terme, then check the San Giuliano Terme population register and 1911 census for that household.
  • These are over 100 years old, so open to consultation (D.Lgs. 42/2004 art. 122, 100-year limit for health/foundling records counted from the event).
