L’anno milleottocento ottantanove, addì trenta di Gennaio, a ore pomeridiane due e minuti quindici, nella Casa comunale. Avanti di me Pietro Bargellini, Segretario dal Sindaco Delegato con atto del dieci febbraio milleottocentottantacinque, Ufficiale dello Stato Civile del Comune di Vecchiano, è comparso Braccioli Giovanni [fu …?], di anni trentanove, bracciante, domiciliato in Avane, il quale mi ha dichiarato che alle ore antimeridiane tre e minuti trenta del dì ventisette del corrente mese, nella casa posta in Avane al numero 90, da Maffei Teresa fu Antonio, attende a casa, sua moglie seco lui convivente, è nato un bambino di sesso femminino che non mi presenta, e a cui dà il nome di Maria. Testimoni Maffei Attilio, di anni quarantotto, maestro, e Scalzini Attilio, di anni quaranta, bracciante, entrambi residenti in questo Comune.   • Maria Braccioli born 27 January 1889, 3:30 am, Avane no. 90 (Vecchiano, Pisa).
  • Father Giovanni Braccioli, 39 (b. c. 1849/50), labourer, Avane. Mother Teresa Maffei, daughter of the late Antonio Maffei.
  • Witness Attilio Maffei, 48, schoolteacher (maestro), is probably a relative of the mother.
  • Witness Attilio Scalzini: the Scalzini family were still neighbours in Avane in 1923 (see twins’ death acts).
  • This resolves the birth-year conflict: 1889 (fits “31” at the 1920 marriage). The passport’s day “2? gennaio” = 27 January is right; its year 1891 is wrong. Brazilian records (1938 marriage, 1968 death age 77) repeat the 1891 error.
  • Another Braccioli birth in the same register, Rosa Braccioli (1889 act 38, image 2948), may be a cousin. Not checked.
